Why Are Wind Turbines an Important Form of New Energy Power Generation?

Greetings from AUSEUSA, we welcome customers to our platform. Where we are focused on the integration of new energy systems. In today’s article, we will discuss everything related to Wind Turbines including their working and advantages. AUSEUSA Wind Turbines are advanced machines and are considered the cornerstone of a sustainable power generation system.

As the world is progressing rapidly towards greener and cleaner energy solutions, wind turbines are effectively playing their role in this matter. Such enormous power generation machines stand tall as symbols of environmental management and advancement. Without any further delay, let’s begin with our article:

Wind Turbine:

Before discussing wind turbines it is important to know what wind energy is. As the world is progressing towards development rapidly, our fossil fuel reservoirs (due to increased use) are decreasing day by day. Researchers and inventors try to formulate new ideas of power generation.

Thanks to technology, we found an effective way of generating electricity without using fossil fuels. Besides solar panels (they trap sunlight for generating electricity), electricity can be generated by wind. It is well said that “The wind is an untamed and unharnessed force”. The process of obtaining energy from wind is called “Wind Energy” and “Wind Turbines” are effectively massive machines that convert wind into electricity.

Every 24 hours, wind generates enough kinetic energy to produce roughly 35 times more electricity than humanity uses each day. And unlike coal or oil, this resource is totally renewed each day. So how can we harness this incredible amount of energy and is it possible to create a world powered entirely by wind? The basic principle of wind energy is simple. A series of blades or sails mounted around a rotary catch the wind and translate its kinetic energy into rotational energy.

Traditional windmills use that rotational energy to grind wheat or pump water. But in modern wind turbines, it turns a generator that creates electricity. This conversion from wind to rotational energy to electricity has defined wind turbines since their invention in the late 19th century. And there are three primary factors that determine just how much energy they can produce. The factors are listed hereunder:

1.Size and orientation of the blades
2.The blade’s aerodynamic design
3.The amount of wind turning the rotor.

First up is the orientation of the blade. Wind turbines can be designed with their rotor on a vertical axis or a horizontal axis. Vertical blades can pick up wind coming from any direction, but with much less efficiency than horizontal axis rotors.

Horizontal axis designs allow blades to capture the wind’s full force. This can be done by tracking the wind’s direction and turning to face it. This turning process is called Yawing.

Today, wind sensors and computer systems automatically adjust the blades with expert precision to capture as much energy as possible. The blade pitching, blade dynamics, bearings, gearbox monitoring, tower sway and tower leveling can be adjusted by sensors or computer systems. Outside rotor orientation, the blades themselves need to be shaped to maximize efficiency.

While early designs used flat blades, modern blades are curved like airplane wings. Wind travels faster over the curved surface, creating a low-pressure pocket above the blade that forces it upward.

Since the amount of lift depends on the angle at which the wind is moving relative to the blade, modern blades also incorporate a twist. Twist helps in optimizing how much of the blade can cut into the wind. Made of fiberglass and resin layers, these blades are strong enough to operate through rain, lighting, and blistering sunlight for more than 20 years. With aerodynamic blades and horizontal rotor, a wind turbine can only capture wind if it’s in a windy environment.

Wind speeds typically increase the higher into the atmosphere you travel. So today, most wind turbine designs are well over 100 meters tall, with equally large rotor diameters. A wind turbine of this height and size can capture a massive amount of wind. Such turbines can generate enough electricity every year to power 750 American homes.

A wind turbine project of 200 similarly sized turbines could power over 150,000 American homes or twice as many European homes for an entire year. Such advanced machines are amazing. Offshore wind farms contain an even greater number of even larger turbines. In 2019, the largest wind turbine ever built began operating off the coast of the Netherlands. With a rotor diameter of 220 meters, just one of these turbines can meet the annual power needs of 16,000 European households.

Despite its amazing potential, wind energy still faces challenges. Wind may be a free and unlimited fuel, but no matter how large or efficient a wind turbine is, there’s a mathematical limit to how much wind it can convert into electricity.

German physicist Albert Betz calculated that since some wind must remain to keep the blades spinning, a turbine can only capture 59.3% of the wind’s energy. Additionally, some people feel turbines disrupt natural scenery. And wind’s energy intermittent availability can make it difficult to integrate into electrical grids. But even with these challenges, modern wind turbines have made wind energy the most efficient and inexpensive source of electricity.

Wind turbines already provide essential energy for communities around the world. And for many farmers, hosting a wind turbine can be a reliable source of additional income. With continued improvements in wind forecasting, electrical grid infrastructure and energy storage, wind power might blow away all of our energy problems.

What are the benefits of installing a wind turbine?

Compared with the insecurity of nuclear power, the asset-heavy investment of hydropower, and the day and night and rainy weather restrictions of solar power, wind turbine performance can entertain its user with many advantages. These include green environmental protection, low cost, and low environmental requirements.

At the same time, nuclear power and hydropower, as major investment projects, are generally led by the government and large enterprises. However, for industrial, commercial, and civilian power generation with a large demand for medium-sized power generation, wind power and solar power provide more flexibility and popularity.

Wind turbines are an important form of new energy because it has numerous advantages, which can be considered as important factors when selecting modern energy projects. Read on to know what these are:

1.As long as there is a breeze, wind turbines can generate electricity 24 hours a day without interruption, and there will be no obvious day and night power generation limitations of solar power generation.

2.Wind power generation can have good synergy with solar power generation. When solar panels cannot generate electricity on haze or typhoon days, it is the wind environment that wind power generation prefers. Wind motors and solar panels can form a very good complementary power generation effect.

3.It occupies a small area. Compared with solar panels that require a large ground area to lay, a wind motor occupies a much smaller ground area. For some places with large crops, wind motors are a better choice.

4.Wind turbines entertain its users with low maintenance requirements. Compared with solar panels that need to frequently clean dust on the surface to ensure the best power generation effect, wind turbines require very little daily maintenance.

5.It can be installed quickly and has strong wind resistance, suitable for islands and inland windy areas.

6.The power generated by wind turbines does not disturb nature. It is considered a clean and renewable energy source. You can get plenty of electricity from the air without paying for it. Wind energy benefits users by reducing air pollution. There is no need for burning coal, natural gas, etc.

7.Wind turbines do not contribute to emission of greenhouse gasses that are making our ozone layer thin. Thus aiding in alleviating climate change.

8.It is a one time investment and entertains users with non-stop electricity 24/7. Also, providing economic benefit to local communities. I.e. community development funds, tax revenues, land lease payments, supporting infrastructure and local economies.

9.This advanced generation of electricity also contributes to preserving our ecosystem. It protects wildlife, marine life, birds, as well as conserving our limited natural sources.

10.Wind turbines are effective machines that are in demand compared to hydro, PV, geothermal, gas and coal energy sources.

Wind turbines are rapidly spreading in markets around the world with huge installed capacity, providing independent, reliable, low-cost clean energy for industry, commerce, and residents. It is a one-time investment and maintenance cost is also low. At AUSEUSA, we develop wind turbines that require low start wind speed, little operating vibrations.

Also, as a professional wind turbine manufacturer and supplier, we use intelligent microprocessors in our turbines to control the current and voltage effectively. We use aluminum alloy plates or nylon fiber in the manufacturing of fan blades.

AUSEUSA can also provide customized energy system solutions, guaranteed quality control, butler style full process technical guidance, and high quality after-sales services.
